Board of Elections 2nd Hearing Update

No place on the ballot

On Tuesday, 12/3, the Board of Elections ignored the endorsement of 350 Columbia Township residents and voted that the referendum concerning Madison Place zoning issues will not go on the ballot in March. Their main argument was that the petition did not include all the required information and was misleading. Our attorney countered with sound legal defense but unfortunately, it didn’t go our way. It is disappointing, to say the least, that BOE members chose to deny residents from having the opportunity to vote.

Tuesday’s hearing was hard to witness, but the energy of all who attended and all who wanted to attend was real and truly felt. Despite setbacks, the powerful connection we have made with one another in Madison Place and nearby communities throughout this process is an absolute win. This connection has helped us stay strong and united in the face of big business encroaching on our unique neighborhood. The support you have shown for Madison Place is inspiring.

“There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.” – Margaret J. Wheatley
